Jr. Ranger Program
The Junior Ranger Program of Tuskegee Institute was started by Ranger Shirley Baxter, of the Tuskegee Institute Historic District. Her concept included youth studying the varied architecture of Tuskegee, AL. This was done with terms from the field of architecture, especially historic and period accents.
The youth came from the Tuskegee Youth Safe Haven program for monthly sessions on Saturdays. Ranger Baxter developed a training workbook for the children to follow and mark as they visited the various buildings around the community. This culminated in an open house, where the youth became the tour guides for visitors to historic sites. |
